The Trent canal

We try to swim every day, especially on hot days. Lock walls are a safe place as there is generally no electricity there. Safe, I should say, when the lock is closed, and there is no boat traffic.
We climbed down the swim ladder on the stern early in the morning at the Fenelon Falls lock wall. Wonderful and cool water, but a bit of weed tickling our feet.
In the heat of the afternoon, we anchored off a residential area in a small lake. A man came out in his outboard, and invited us to come swim off his dock. Very kind of him. We spent a lot of the day in the man made Trent Canal. It’s narrow, shallow, straight, lined with trees, and boring.
Stopped for the night at the Kirkfield lift lock wall. Walked down to the road that runs under the lock, to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Lovely weed free swim in the lock after yhat. Only one other boat tied up for the night, so we practically had the place to ourselves.
