i had flown back to Toronto the day before, then taken the airport shuttle to the marina in Midland, Ontario. It was so hot, we spent the balance of the afternoon in the pool.
On Tuesday, we finished getting everything put away and ship shape. Jim returned the rental car, the skies cleared, we said goodbye to new friends, and the we were off. It was wonderful to have the mast up again. The vibrations were gone, the prop had been straightened. The engine purred, thanks to an oil change and a new plate attachment for the alternator. And, Heron looked fabulous! Jim had worked on the bright work while I was away. Pretty spiffy!
Jim had spent several hours wih Andy at the Wye Heritage marina, going over our charts of Georgian Bay. Andy had drawn our route with a bright yellow highlighter, and he had marked some of his favorite places to anchor.
What is Georgian Bay like? Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. All granite, and all just sitting there for millions of years, waiting to rip your boat apart.
But, it was beautiful. The channels were sometimes narrow, and sometimes very narrow!
We anchored in a protected cove that reminded me of a donut. The cove was round, with two separate rocks in the center. The rocks were marked, and we stayed way away from them.
Quiet night at anchor off 12 mile channel.
