I had always thought that there was only one Gibson Island. But, we found another one. After an early start leaving the Benjamin Islands, we had passed through the very narrow channel at Little Detroit, motored down Whaleback Channel, and headed north of Turnbull Island. And there it was. A small island, low lying with rocks and evergreens. If we ever go back, we should consider leaving a Gibson Island Yacht Squadron burgee on a tree!
Jim loved Whaleback Channel, with a series of mammoth rock islands rising out of the water like a herd of whales swimming in single file.
Night at Blind River Marina. The town was a center for lumbering back in the day, and the old smokestack for the residual wood still stands near the marina.
