It is 333.4 miles from the Calumet River harbor to the spot where the Illinois River joins the Mississippi River. We left the Hammond Marina at 7am, and pulled into Skyway at 8am. My mother and I worked on removing the spreaders from our rigging while the Skyway. Crew worked on the bilge pump and our port side rub rail.
We were underway again around 11am, heading south.
Our first lock and dam was easy. The drop was only two feet, and we were the only boat in the lock.
We passed through industrial areas. Lots of activity along the river with loading docks, cranes, barges, etc…
We stopped early at Marine Services. I had read on Active Captain that this was a good place to stop as they have a loaner car. There are almost no places to stop after this until Joliet.
We drove to Pete’s Fresh Market, a few miles away. Great grocery stores! They had every imaginable kind of cut. Chicken feet, pigs ears, tripe, you name it.
Quiet night off the river at the marina.
