Our first rescue! We had been motoring south on the Cal Sag when we came upon a motorboat that was floating in the middle of the channel. Wow, were they happy to see us! They had slowed down to a stop when a tug and barge had passed them. But, when they put their boat back in gear, nothing happened. We tied them on our starboard side and towed them about 2 miles north to a boat launch.
At mile 296 we went through the electric fish barrier. This was designed to keep Asian carp out of Lake Michigan. The area was very industrial. We saw nothing unusual, and before we knew it, the fish barrier was behind us.
We pulled up to the Joliet town wall at 3:30pm. There were 4 other Looper boats there. We’d been warned not to leave our boat unattended at the wall, so we had dinne on the boat and went to sleep early. We heard a few tugs go by during the night. The river is not that wide in Joliet, and the tug and barges were huge and close!
