North up the Mississippi

Most loopers head south from Grafton, down the Mississippi. But, we had other plans. Jim had spent 6 months in Quincy, Illinois three years ago, working at a VA clinic. Wouldn’t it be fun to go visit Quincy and visit old co-workers!
I had to wait until the post office opened in Grafton, and so we did not get an early start. It was another beautiful day, with 10-15 mph winds from the NE. The combination of the winds and the current against us meant that our top speed was usually just under 5 knots. We saw more flocks of white Pelicans, a ferry, and lots of houses built on stilts.
After waiting for two hours for lock #25, we anchored near Turner Island. beautiful sunset!
