We left the lock and dam at 7:15am, and followed Matt. It was a long day, 74 miles to Little Diversion canal near Cape Girardeau.
We started reading the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn aloud to each other. We had to shout a bit because it was so windy in the cockpit. One of many tugs went by, this one with a big wake. We headed into the waves to lesson the rock and rolling. Then we noticed that Matt had trouble. We called his cell. The rocking had broken his davit. He had to start towing his dinghy.
Other than many barges, lots of eddies and whirlpools, and the first touches of fall color, the high point of the day was hearing about Huck Finn.
Night anchored at little diversion inlet.
