We were out of Green Turtle Bay by 8:20am, headed south for a mile on Barkley Lake. We took the canal over to Kentucky Lake and turned to our port. We will be on Kentucky Lake/ Tennessee River for the next 200 miles. We passed by the spot where our friend John “hit the city” a few weeks before. He had gone out of the channel and plowed into the remains of an old town that was flooded when Kentucky dam was built. His boat has been on the hard at Green Turtle Bay ever since.
It was cold as we headed south. We looked at the weather report. It was supposed to get into the mid-30’s at night. To anchor and be cold? Or, to go to a marina, plug into shore power, and turn on our little oil filled electric heater? Let’s think about that. We decided on Paris Landing State Park marina. It had high reviews on Active Captain. When we pulled in Cocomo was already there, as well as Matt. Matt had spent the previous night in another marina. We were all about to go to the state park lodge for the early bird buffet. $7.95 per person if you arrive by 5:30. Such a deal. Just then John, April, and the kids pulled in. Yeah! The ten of us all had a splendid dinner at the lodge.
It was wonderful having the heater on while we watched a movie on Netflix, and then hit the v- berth.
