Our 42nd anniversary!
How do you get dressed when it is below freezing outside? Quickly!
What do you put on? Everything!
It was our third morning in a row with frost/ice on the decks and combing. We have a little oil filled electric heater for when we are plugged into shore power. What a luxury when it is really cold!
We were worried about how the water hyacinth would be at the nearby lock. Our plan was to follow the 117 foot yacht that had pulled into the marina the afternoon before. They could be our water hyacinth breaker. But, when we called the lock at 6am, they said it was all clear. The water hyacinths were gone!
What a great start to our day! And we had a beautiful sunrise! And we had beautiful mist rising off the river! Jim stood in just the right spot to block the sun, so I could see to steer.
When we were stuck out on the river on Sunday, we had called Pirates Cove marina, about 25 miles down river, and discussed a plan B if T. had not been able to rescue us. We stopped by the marina mid-morning to thank them. Met the pirate, a pirate, and Joe! Fun!
We were having a wonderful anniversary, out on the river, heading down the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway, and it became an even better day. The night before at dinner, Dick suggested that we try Faro Blanco Resort and Marina in Marathon. He’d heard that they just opened again last January after a major refit, and they had just lowered their slip prices in order to attract boats for the winter months! I called, and made a reservation for February, March, and April. Yeah! I had been worried. Where could we keep the boat when I was home for tax season? I had had no luck finding anyplace so far. The marina is more expensive than some places, but beggars can’t be choosers. I think it will be perfect. They have two pools and a restaurant. Marathon is a great place in the Keys, and there is a channel there, so Jim can go out into the Atlantic or towards the Gulf from there. He is hoping to find friends/ relatives who would like to go sailing around in the Keys or to the Bahamas while I am home. Speak up if anyone is interested!
We anchored after a long day on the river at the Sumpter Recreation Area. It’s a small basin off the waterway, quiet, safe, and perfect. The full moon rose while we feasted on braised lamb shanks I’d had in the freezer for the occasion.
