“Prepare to be impressed!” Those were my brother’s words to me when he heard we were bringing our newly purchased 1980 Pearson Pilothouse to Gibson Island Boat Works for her refit. It started out as a big job, but as leaks and rot and antiquated equipment and blisters and so on were discovered or evaluated, the refit became a huge job. Heron now has a beautiful bottom! She has fabulous new teak work, including new toe rail caps, combing, and bowsprit. With lots of grandchildren, and wanting them to enjoy the boat, we rebuilt the settees and table with a fort underneath. Heron has all new wiring, new electronics, new hatches, and new water filters. Heron’s exterior is looking fabulous, as is her newly refurbished mast and boom. Not knowing much about cruising boats, we asked Rick what the smell was. “The Head”, he said. We are very happy with the new odor-free composting toilet. The old cold box has been refit into a wonderful spot to keep things cold and/or frozen. We are thankful to Boat Works for their patience with our ignorance, for teaching us about engines, etc…. , and for their care and attention to Heron. We are impressed!
