Sunday January 10 – Monday January 11, 2016
Sunday morning was a washout…. Pouring rain. In the afternoon, Jim rowed us to the dinghy dock. After inhaling a big plate of steamed shrimp, we took the Fort Meyers trolley as far as it went south on the island, and back again.
Monday morning was a much better day to set out for Marco Island. We heard on the VHF radio that a sailboat was taking on water near Cayo Costa Island. Anyone in the vicinity was asked to help if they could. We were miles away, but saw the Coast Guard boat zoom off to the rescue. We sailed south, past the high rises of Naples, and pulled into Rose Marina on Marco Island. We are going to leave Heron there during tax season . They have a travel lift, and they will be able to fix the gouge in I her bottom while I am home for tax season.
Our friend Chris picked us up at the marina and drove us to his condo, a few miles away. It was great to catch up with him. Jim and Chris were medical school classmates at the Univertity of Miami many years ago. There is a nature trail near Chris’s condo, and we saw a Roseate Spoonbill! Beautiful pink bird, hunting through the watery muck for some tasty delights?
