We called Faro Blanco Marina as we were coming close to Marathon. Did they have an available slip? Yes! Yeah! Faro Blanco has availability because they are more expensive than the other marinas in Marathon. But the other marinas are full and there are 50 boats on the waiting list for a mooring ball.
I loved Faro Blanco! It was one of the nicest marinas we have stayed in. Two pools, spotless bathroom and laundry facilities, free ice and newspapers, they are a first class operation. Best of all, they have a staff member on site all night long to adjust lines, and keep an eye on all the boats. We had two big blows while we were there, and I slept better knowing we were being watched.
I love renting cars on our trip. Freedom! We drove 2 hours to Homestead for Milkshakes at Robert is Here Fruit stand, for fabulous ribs at Shivers, and to go to see The Big Short. We also made the 1 hour trip (each way) to Key West on three different days. The key West Seafood Festival was great. We met Mike and Marylin from SweetPea as well as Jim’s cousin Jan and his wife Lucy. We spent another day exploring Key West with Marylin and Mike, and enjoying the Hogfish Grill. On our third road trip to Key West, we toured the Audubon house. Jim and I splurged on a bicycle taxi for a trip to the Blackfin Restsurant on Duvall before seeing the movie Revenant.
We also had a great time seeing Judy and Tom, friends from Maine, at Long Key State Park, where they have been camping.
Loved our six nights in Marathon!
