I love Key West!

Thursday January 21 – Monday January 25, 2016
We arrived at our slip at the Key West Garrison Bight Marina 10 minutes before sunset. We were pooped!
On Friday it poured for most of the day. Jim’s cousin Jan picked us up in the afternoon, and we went to see Room at the wonderful Tropic Theatre downtown. We spent the evening with Jan and Lucy: happy hour at Square One, beer and band watching at the Green Parrot, wine at an art opening, and then dinner at a Cuban restaurant. Fun evening! I felt like I was back in college.
On Saturday we met Mike and Marylin for lunch, then went to see The Danish Girl at the Tropic. We are trying to see all of the movies up for Academy Awards. That night we attended a performance of Blithe Spirit in a church hall. Great day!
On Sunday morning, Mike and Marylin dinghied in from their boat on the mooring field for Brunch on Heron. It was Marylin’s birthday! At 3pm, Jan’s son Chris and his family and Jan and Lucy joined us on our boat for a visit.
We really enjoyed Key West! Loved the two story homes with upstairs porches. Loved taking the bus through the narrow streets. Great shops, bakeries, restaurants, museums, everything!

We’re in Key West for the winter, camped behind the CG Station, right on Fleming Cut. We watch the charter fishing boats from City Pier on Garrison Bight go out every morning while we walk our dog. I think I remember the storm you mention when arriving in KW. We had a series of bad weather that month. Now, for my question: How did you get a boat with a 50′ mast into Garrison Bight Marina? From the NW channel you could get into the seaplane landing area, and the anchorage East of Fleming Key, and probably through the cut by the Sailing Club, but there is no way you could get it under the Palm Avenue bridge without making the local papers. Did you pull the mast somewhere? Just asking…

BTW, if you get back to KW, the Thai restaurant at Garrison Bight marina is great, and cheap. One of our favorites.

The only tricky part was making sure we got under the power lines. The charter fishing boats go under the Palm bridge. We were on the sea side of the bridge, right by rt 1.
