The no see ums were chewing on us all night, but that was not our biggest problem. Around 3am, the carbon monoxide alarm started beeping, which woke us up. My first thought was that nothing was turned on except our anchor light, so how could we have a problem with CO? Turns out it is also the low battery alarm. I turned on one of the overhead LED lights, and it was very dim. State of charge (SOC) said “Think’n”! In a nutshell, we had no power from our house bank of 6 batteries. That meant no refrigeration, no chartplotter or radio or radar, no lights, no propane stove, etc…
We carefully left the refrigerator and freezer shut, grabbed a banana, got dressed, and waited for dawn.
We could start our Diesel engine. We have 2 separate batteries for that, and the windless worked fine pulling up the anchor. We started around the anchorage, was anyone going to Marathon. We found two boats going that way, so we followed the sailboat (Eagle Too), and the little tug followed us.
It was a gorgeous day, and we motor sailed most of the way.
Pulled into Faro Blanco Marina around 2pm, and set the repair process in motion, before settling in at the marina’s pool! Yeah! We made it!
