Dinner Key Marina is at mile marker 1,094.3 on the intercoastal waterway. Norfolk is at mile 0, we we can count down the mile until we get home. 1,094 plus about 120 miles up the Cheaapeake Bay equals 1,214 miles to go. Piece of cake!
I had to return the Enterprise rental car, so we didn’t shove off from the Marina until after 10am.
Motoring by downtown Miami was thrilling. Beautiful buildings rising from the water.
During the day, we went thru 11 bridges that had to open for us. Some open on the hour and half hour, some open at 15 minutes past and to the hour, and some are on demand. As soon as we were finished with a bridge, Jim would set the next bridge as our destination on our Garmin chartplotter. Then I would either slow down or speed up to make the next bridge’s opening time. When I was in sight of the bridge, I would call the bridge on channel 9 on our radio to request the next opening.
Going through Fort Lauderdale was stressful! Too many big expensive boats everywhere! Plus the port with cargo ships, tugs, etc…. We were glad to arrive at Sunrise Bay, a quiet spot to anchor for the night.
Night at anchor, north of Fort Lauderdale.
