We were up early, and we were headed north again. We wanted to get to the Sullivan’s Island bridge before they started their on the hour opening schedule at 9am. We made it with half hour to spare!
It was a scenic day. Lots of nice homes along the water, miles of tree studded marshes, and one very dilapidated pier. It was also very hot, around 95 degrees. I hope my cooler/helm seat doesn’t fall apart before we return home. I spritzed a beach towel with water, and wrapped it around my legs. Served lots of purposes: protection from the sun, the cooling from evaporation of the water, and a deterrant from the horseflies and biting black flies. We were not being bombarded by flies as we had been off Georgia, but it was a low key attack that lasted all day. By the late afternoon we were hot, bug bitten, and ready to have dinner in an air conditioned restaurant. We pulled into the Georgetown Landing Marina, and walked to the restaurant next door.
I’ve always heard of shrimp and grits, and Jim enjoyed his serving. I went for the soft shell crabs over grits. Wow! Best soft shell crabs in a very long time!
After dinner, we hired a taxi for a trip a grocery store and back. Did two loads of wash, took a shower, and crashed into my bunk. I was so tired! But my day was not over! Something was chewing on me in the dark, no see ums and/or mosquitoes! The joys of cruising!
Night at Georgetown Landing Marina.
