We had been pushing hard in the heat, covering 251 nautical miles in 4 travel days between Brunswick, Georgia and Georgetown, South Carolina. The temperature during the day had been in the 90’s. I think it was a matter of mutiny on the part of our alternator, working next to the hot engine.
On our way up the ICW from Georgetown, we noticed that the alternator was not charging our batteries. This issue seems to be Heron’s Achilles heel! And of course, everything usually works when we have a mechanic looking at it. But then that is usually when the engine is not hot.
I looked through Active Captain, and found a fabulous Marina! They have a huge pool. Yeah! We pulled into Barefoot Marina in Myrtle Beach with a State of charge of 80%. It should have been 100%.
The pool was wonderful, the Marina was very nice, and as an added bonus, there were fireworks on the other side of the canal from our boat!
