Monday June 20- Tuesday June 21, 2016
We sailed most of the way from Oriental to Ocracoke Island. Pamlico Sound was beautiful, nice breeze, not much in the way of waves. After 7 hours, we arrived at Ocracoke Island right in front of the ferry. We tied up quickly to an old dock on one side of the ferry, and then moved to the National Park Service on the other side of the ferry after it had docked. Ferries have the right of way, and you want to stay clear of them!
The NPS dock was great. With my senior park pass, it was only $.60 per foot to stay there. We knew that the winds would be picking up the next day, so we stayed two nights.
After arriving, we walked into the village. They had a few tables set up in a park, and I bought a custom pineapple cupcake from the cupcake lady. Jim bought baklava and other goodies from a Greek woman. We also walked to the seafood store for fresh clams, shrimp, scallops, and fish. Yum!
On Tuesday we rented a golf cart for 24 hours. What fun! We had breakfast and lunch at the wonderful food truck. Loved their fish tacos! We drove as far as we allowed in the golf cart, and then walked to a beach near the airport. It was so windy, the blowing sand stung our legs. It was definitely not a day to be out on the water. We stopped at the lighthouse, and drove around the tiny town. We enjoyed listening to two men in costume talk about Blackbeard at the museum. Perfect soft shell crabs for dinner at the Flying Melon.
Two nights at the National Park Service dock on Ocracoke Island.
