We had thunderstorms roll through overnight, but we were secure in our slip on Roanoke Island. The skies were still grey when we headed off at 6:35. Early start for a long day. We sailed across Albemarle Sound, dodging crab pots. Really hate the crab pots. They were everywhere, and you don’t want to run over one, and have the line wrapped around your propeller.
We went through the bascule bridge at Elizabeth City, and tied up at Jennette Brothers dock, on the far side of the bridge. They have a great deal: eat at one of the restaurants they service, fill out a survey, and dock for free. We had lunch at Cypress Creek, very nice, but North Carolina crab cakes do not compare to those from the Chesapeake Bsy.
At 4:45pm we left Elizabeth City, headed north for the Dismal Swamp. What a beautiful cruise in the evening light. We anchored in a lovely spot behind Goat Island. No houses in sight, no other boats, wonderful!
Night anchored at Goat Island.
