We completed the Great Loop on July 1, 2017, and we were looking forward to being back on our boat again.
I’d been sick, and had started a course of Doxycycline on Sunday. The drug makes you nauseous, and you are supposed to stay out of the sun. Great way to start a trip on a boat! But, I was feeling better, and we were anxious to get started. The weather looked good for our Atlantic voyage from Cape May to New York, and the tide would be in our favor thru the C & D Canal and down Delaware Bay. We also wanted to get as far north as possible, up the Hudson, before our 8th grandbaby was born (due May 23.)
There are many ways to do the Little Triangle Loop. We plan to head up the Hudson River and then take the Canal to Lake Champlain. After crossing into Canada at the northern end of the lake, we would visit Montreal and Ottawa before heading along the Rideau Canal to Kingston. We would the take the St Lawrence thru the 1,000 islands, and return the way we came via Lake Champlain. Lots of low spots on our trip, so we left our mast at home.
We would be leaving our boat at various times over the course of the summer, so I wasn’t too concerned about leaving anything behind.
It was a beautiful day, as we left Gibson Island Boatworks around 10:30am. No mast, this was a motoring only trip! We travel at about 6 knots.
We anchored off Ford’s Landing at the mouth of Bohemia Creek at 6pm. We were just a few miles south of the western end of the C & D Canal. Lovely sunset.
