Day 6 Loy Krathong

Tuesday November 8, 2022.
I had made arrangements several months ago to have a special dinner served on our patio by the River, overlooking the Temple of the Dawn. Mr. Ohm, the manager, also suggested that we go on a 1 hour boat ride before our dinner. The villa owns a 15 year old classic looking motor boat with plushy seating. It reminds me of the Chris Craft look.
Several weeks ago, Mr. Ohm emailed to say that Bangkok would be celebrating Loy Krathong on November 8 ( first time since Covid) and would we like to switch our boat ride and dinner to Tuesday night and the lunar festivities? Yes!
We spent the morning walking, getting hotter and hotter, and seeing lots of Buddhas, temples, and the Grand Palace. I could not wait to jump in the swimming pool.
at 5pm, all was ready. A table with 2 place settings had been set up on the River end of our patio. The motor boat had been taken down from its lift under our patio. We boarded the boat and had a wonderful half hour going downriver toward the setting sun. Then we turned around for our 30 minute return trip. Our captain took our photo in front of the Temple if the Dawn. Magical! Dinner was spectacular. Lots of different flavors. It was dark, so my photos don’t do justice to the dishes. After dinner Mr. Ohm lighted the candle and incense on each of our banana leaf floats.
It was an amazing evening!

We had a very interesting tour guide at the reclining Buddha complex. He has lived on the grounds for the past 40 years (and he is not a monk).
They have a massage school at the complex, and these drawings depict the massage points.
What big feet you have reclining Buddha!
By the time we arrived at the Grand palace, I was so hot and so ready to jump in the pool at our hotel.
A Thai costumed dance show was included in the price of our admission to the Grand Palace. The air conditioning was wonderful. So was the show.
Our patio is ready for our special dinner.

In honor of the lunar celebration, lighted floats are placed in the River.
Jim placed his offering in a long handled basket and then the basket was lowered into the River.
