Wednesday, November 16, 2022. We were underway at sea all day, headed toward Jakarta, Indonesia. We walked around the ship on deck 2 a few times. 4 laps is a mile. Lunch at Mamsen’s, soup and open faced sandwiches. Swim, work on the 3,000 piece puzzle in level 2, traditional tea at Wintergarden accompanied by beautiful music, and so on.
At 6:15pm we went to the Star theatre for a talk about Indonesia. I did not know about the traditions on a people on an island we would not be visiting. These people honor their dead, by preserving them with formaldehyde. Occasionally they will pull the loved ones out of their resting place, dust them off, redress them in new clothes, and hang out with them! Quite creepy. Our speaker then went to show us graphic video on volcanoes blowing up, tsunamis wiping out villages, and what happens if a Komodo dragons bites you. (You die because their venom makes your blood unable to clot.) Wow! After that lecture, did we really want to visit Indonesia?
