Day 24, Mahjong

Saturday, November 26, 2022

I had the best time playing Chinese (Hong Kong) mahjong with a couple from California and a man from Canada. They were all born in China, and were very patient teaching me their version of the game. Really fun! I had to be quick, and I caught on fast! Even won a few games!

We docked in Darwin around 2pm, and took the bus excursion to visit the Northern Territories Museum and Art Gallery. They have a big exhibit on Cyclone Tracey which hit around midnight on Christmas Eve 1974. Most of Darwin was destroyed. The city has been rebuilt in an organized way. Very lovely place. We had dinner at Wharf One overlooking the waterfront and our cruise ship.

The 3,000 piece puzzle of the Alps is slowly coming along in the 2nd deck Atrium. Some days I find one or two pieces, some days 20!
We met Australian Ruth and John on our first day, back in the lobby of the Shangri-La Bangkok lobby, just when Jim lost (and luckily found) his wallet. We enjoy their company very much.
Meet Sweetheart! This giant salt water crocodile is on display in the museum.
Bamboo and shell interpretation of charts used to navigate these water using the stars.
