Day 54, Arrowtown

Monday, December 26, 2022.

We left Queenstown and headed to Arrowtown, a 15 minute drive away. We parked in the park by the Arrow River. We had a little reunion with both our Queenstown cousins and my 2nd cousin Jeremy from Arrowtown. Ira was intent on panning for gold. The kids had a ball playing in the water.

We had a picnic lunch in the park, and then a cup of tea at Jeremy’s home. We set out for lake Te Anau in the mid afternoon. Our goal was to go freedom camping! But freedom camping is not allowed in Te Anau or Lake Manapouri. It was getting dark and we still had no place to camp for the night. Finally we found a wonderful campground on Lake Manapouri.

The “beam me up Scotty” public toilet in Arrowtown. It was wonderful! Played classical music, made you wash your hands before the toilet would flush, and it was free. Very cool!
