It was a grey drizzling morning as we left Milford Sound. I wasn’t too worried about the twists and turns and sheer drop offs on my way into Milford sound, but after listening to Jim talk about his white knuckles, I was starting to be concerned about our trip back. However, I thought it went well. We had a bus behind us in line for the tunnel. We were parked waiting, so I got out and walked back to talk to the bus driver. Go ahead! I don’t want anyone behind me!
All went well through the tunnel. I went slowly thru the curves and we made it down to the flats. Phew! Then we rounded a curve, and there was an SUV upside down in the trees along the road. A father and daughter were sitting on a log. Several people were directly traffic to slow down. I have no idea if anyone (the mother?) was still in the overturned vehicle. 10 minutes down the road, a police car was raising to the scene, followed later by an ambulance, followed still later by 2 fire trucks.
Katie found out that there are an average of 3 accidents per day on the Milford Road. Once time someone went off a Cliff and landed on a ledge below. 2 weeks after that, another car went off the road in the same place and landed on top of the first car! Glad we made it.
We stopped at my cousin Olivia’s house for a cup of tea. Katie stayed there for the night and Jane’s birthday celebration. We spent the night with Jeremy and Nadine in Arrowtown. Drinks with Simon, Mary, and their daughter Kate (more cousins).
