Day 66, Parrots in Paradise.

Friday, January 6, 2023

I had arranged a morning tour of the Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary, and it was a short drive south from Kona to the place.
Lots of different birds from parrots to macaws, to lovebirds, to one pigeon, to chickens (who eat all the food that the other birds toss out of their dish). Fun experience.

We had lunch at a food truck nearby, fish tacos and burritos. The place was high above the coast, beautiful view.

We spent the night at an adorable Airbnb, called “The Flower Bed”. Inside a little greenhouse was a queen sized bed. Composting toilet and shower our back. I am glad it wasn’t raining. However, it was a full moon. The moonlight was bright, and all the neighborhood dogs were howling, plus a confused rooster thought it must be morning.

Our tour guide’s father (founder of the sanctuary) said it was the best weather day in 35 years!
Our tour guide had stories about all the birds.
Jim and his feathered friend
Wide variety of birds!
Three amigos who used to live at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (I believe). Moved during Covid to the sanctuary where they could take better care of them.
Fabulous fish tacos for lunch

Comfy bed
The fabric on the ceiling helped block some of the full moon light.
Oops! Almost forgot this beautiful blue bird!
