We arrived in our rental car at Trisha and John’s home in Hillsboro, Oregon in the late morning. Trisha and I have been friends since we moved back to Gibson Island in 1979, at the end of Jim’s residency.
Trisha and John’s two girls, Molly and Kate, were 4 and 2 years old, the same age as Katie and Juliana. The stories I could tell about all that Trisha and I have done together! Katie literally saved Trisha’s life, I think on Mt Adams. Trisha was tumbling down the mountain that they were climbing together. Katie caught up to Trisha, grabbed her, and jammed her ax into the ice to stop their descent!
Trisha is my friend I always want to hang on to. We have had so many fun times, like the time we took the kids out of school and went to the Easter egg hunt at the White House. I would have never thought of doing something like that. Trisha and I rode on the STP 15 years ago. That would be Seattle to Portland, 203 miles in 2 days! And then we did the 5 borough bike ride in NYC a few years later. It is always fun to catch up with Trisha. It had been too long since we had last seen her. Her husband John no longer travels, so Trisha stays put in Hillsboro.
