Lock 9

It was time to face the music, the dreaded lock 9. Jim crawled into the forward settee to check the water level while I filled the tank, and then we were off, westbound on the Mohawk River. The water level seemed lower and the current seemed less than the day before. This was our nineth lock. We’d smashed the mast on lock #1, but we were more experienced by lock #9.
The whirling water was still full of logs below the dam, but the turbulence was less than the day before. We headed for the lock, but at the last minute an eddy or the wind or something caught our bow! We were headed toward the starboard side wall, so I put her in reverse. We didn’t crash our bow, but we did take a chunk out of our port side tie rail cap at the stern. Battle scar. The rest of the day was a piece of cake in comparison.
Beautiful scenery as we headed west, right next to the New York Thruway.
Night at Canajoharie town dock. The Chamber of Commerce provides free water and electricity. In return, we walked into town to support the local businesses. Very nice pizza restaurant for dinner.
