Thursday July 9
We decided that the prop vibration was not that noticeable, and that we wanted to get farther along to meet up with Katie and her family. So they put Heron back on the travel lift, put the propeller back on, put her back in the water, and then we were off.
It was a cold and rainy day as we went thru lock 23 on the Erie Canal, and then headed north for the 7 locks of the Oswego canal.
We knew that the locks closed at 6pm, so we didn’t linger anywhere, and we went through the last lock with a few minutes to spare.
It’s quite a sight in Oswego, with three locks in a row next to some dramatic water falls/dams.
Often we have choices as to where to stay for the night. We could have tied up to the free wall between the last two locks. Or we could have tied up to the wall after the last lock and paid $20. Neither of these had any services such as water, power, or bathrooms. Instead we tied up to a hotel/restaurant for $2 per foot. We had everything, and for $5 more we could relax in the hotel pool. Wonderful!
